Lilac Cottage - Contemporary Extension
Charlie and Paula own an exquisite period cottage set on the outskirts of Lymington, in which they wanted to stay long term. Unfortunately due to green belt policy numerous proposals had already been rejected at planning. The cottage is set within a large plot and the already extended living accommodation just could not support the needs for a family home.
Our brief was to achieve an extended kitchen/family room in a contemporary style that would compliment the existing cottage. We set about designing a side and rear extension that could be built under permitted development rights, without the need for planning permission.
Permitted development rights set the zones in which we could extend and therefore the footprint was generated. We then set about remodelling the interior of the existing house to free up space to create a large kitchen/family room and changes in levels were introduced to create higher ceilings in the new extension.
Without the need for planning permission work was able to start on completion of the Building Regulations drawings.
